World of Warcraft 's Fan-Made Legacy Server It was shut down for several hours following the launch
The Felmyst server, which is a private World of Warcraft server developed by fans to imitate Blizzard's MMO as it was 2007 when the Burning Crusade expansion launched, was closed. It was officially launched on July 21 however it was shut down an hour later.
Gummy52. a developer on the project, posted an image of a cease-and-desist message sent by Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP the legal firm that represents World of Warcraft developer Blizzard. The letter stated that the server is an infringement of Blizzard's intellectual properties.
"We recognize that as a result of your participation with Felmyst, you are engaged in the development, distribution, and hosting of 'emulated server' software (hereafter"Infringing Service")," ),'" The letter states. "Among other things, [these] Infringing Services allow users to buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold play altered and/or illegitimate copies of WoW online [without] the need for a legitimately-purchased copy or subscription."
